Prep Instructions

Please access the forms below to help you prepare for your colonoscopy.

Prior to certain medical procedures or if you have been diagnosed with certain digestive problems, your doctor may instruct you to follow a clear liquid diet. This means your diet should consist of items that are easily digested and leave no residue on the intestinal tract.

A clear liquid diet helps keep your body hydrated and provides some essential electrolytes, like potassium or sodium. You can only consume the following foods and/or beverages when your doctor places you on a clear liquid diet:

  • Broth
  • Honey
  • Plain gelatin
  • Popsicles that do not contain bits of fruit or fruit pulp
  • Plain water
  • Fruit juices without pulp
  • Strained lemonade or fruit punch
  • Tea
  • Coffee (no cream)

The above list specifies general items recognized as clear liquids. Your doctor may limit certain liquids depending on your condition, or the procedure or test being performed. If you experience chronic abdominal cramping or discomfort while on a clear liquid diet, call our office. Please follow your doctor’s instructions carefully to ensure the success of your surgical procedure or test.
